Becoming Crafty

Since we've moved to AZ, I've had a lot of free time.  I haven't started at Gap yet, and school hasn't started (so I can't sub yet), so I have a lot of projects on my mind (thank you pinterest).  I've completed 2 already... the first one, painted mason jars. 

I acquired mason jars from Tyler's grandma during their move, and started on them pretty soon after we got here.  I bought several different colors of paint, and all you have to do is pour the paint into the jar, and spin it around a lot.  Super easy!  The hard part is waiting for them to dry.

The next project on my list was painting our piano.  We got our piano about a year ago from somebody up in ID who knew Tyler's grandparents.  Again, we got it for FREE.  It needs a tuning, and it was a yellow color before, but besides that, it's in great shape!  We decided on the color RED, b/c we wanted something bold.  All of our walls in our apt are a very light beige color (almost cream), so we wanted something that would pop.  Well, I can't take all the credit for the piano b/c Tyler did an AWESOME job at the small details, and I'm certain he did more work than I did.  Luckily we painted it before school got crazy b/c he's SUPER busy now. 

Haboob

Haboob:

We just experienced one of these TODAY.  We had just gone in to Michael's, and it was only stormy looking when we went in to the store, but literally 2 minutes after we walked in, we looked outside, and it was pretty much pitch black.  We stayed in the store for another 5 minutes or so, and the dark color went away, but the wind and sand did NOT go away.  

It was crazy, to say the least.  I felt like I was in the movie Mission Impossible 3 when the sand storm happens.  You know how in the movie the sand storm happens in a matter of minutes?  Well, that's exactly how it was here.  

While we were in Michael's, a tree fell on an employee's car (see below).  Sad day for that employee..

 

White Coat

Tyler had his "White Coat" ceremony today for dental school.  He officially became a "student doctor."  While Tyler became a student doctor, I sat with the fellow wives of other students.  We really are fortunate to be members of the church...we have instant friends in dental school.  We even went out to dinner with 2 other couples.  It's nice to meet other girls who will be lonely for the next 4 years with me :)  Here are some pictures from the ceremony today.

San Diego

Tyler and I really wanted to take a little trip, just the 2 of us after we moved to AZ, and before he started school.  Since our plan was altered a bit (because of the truck incident), we only had 2 days for a trip, and then we were babysitting for my mom for 2 days.  Anyway, we thought San Diego would be the perfect getaway from blistering hot AZ, so we set off on Sunday morning (and Tyler had really never been to SD besides our wedding day).  We stayed at the Kimpton hotel, right by the harbor, and went down to Coronado beach, had dinner at the "Lounge Burger," hung out by the pool for a bit, and then went to the San Diego Zoo (I haven't been in years, and Tyler had never been).  It was the calm before the storm (school starting).

After SD, we went up to my parents to babysit while my mom went on her annual ladies trip.  It was an adventurous 2 days, and there was definitely never a dull moment.  Those kids are wild!

Camping/Golfing in Midway

We went golfing/camping with Tyler's family right before we left for AZ.  We found a small cabin in Midway, right next to the Wasatch golf course, and decided to golf Friday, and then spend the night.  I highly recommend this place...it was great.  The cabin had 2 queen size bunk beds, a fridge/freezer, microwave, heater/AC, and electricity (obviously).  We golfed girls and boys, and the I think the girls did AWESOME!
